Nagpur UniversityNagpur University has restarted the course of MA in mass communication. The course had been stopped after numerous controversies over the last many years.

“The sale of admission forms will start in a couple of days from the NU’s department of mass communication,” registrar Mahesh Yenkie said.

According to Yenkie, the department is well-equipped with all facilities to run the two-year course, which will be conducted in four semesters. “The process of appointing teachers is underway,” he said. In Nagpur, Dhanwate National College (DNC) is the only other college to teach this course.

A senior NU official disclosed that there will be 30 seats and tuition fees for the new course has been fixed at Rs 15,200 per head. However, students will have to bear other expenses, including the charges for welfare fund and recreational facilities, which may push the total fee to around Rs 18,000.

“The curriculum is already in place and it focuses more on practicals and training in print, electronic and new media, including Internet and mobiles. With fully equipped studio, latest cameras and audio-visual aids, the NU department has everything to provide practical training to aspirants,” he said. The department has already floated orders for video editing equipment used by TV channels.

The mass communication department presently conducts two courses – bachelor in journalism (BJ) and post graduate diploma in video programming, with 50 and 25 seats respectively. University officials informed that like BJ, admissions to MA mass communication will be made through an entrance test to be conducted sometime in July third week.
